Without indulging you into the definition and history of hypoglycemia or low blood sugar I’ll be simply jotting down here 12 foods that are bad for those who are dealing with low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. These foods should be avoided as much as possible.

The foods are valued on a scale that connects the sugar content of the food with the fact that how fast are these foods used in the body. This is technically termed glycemic index. The basic aim should be to keep the blood sugar level constant without forming the valleys and peaks. This can be done by slowing down the rate in which the body converts the food into glucose in the body. The ideal way is by eating the food components that burn slowly in the body.

White Bread
As mentioned the aim is to slow down the rate at which the food is converted into glucose, it becomes vital for a hypoglycemic to avoid readily burning foods. White bread, white rice and white flour are the prime examples of the foods which have the higher glycemic index.

Donuts
There is nothing worse than it as it should be considered as a white bread dipped in refined sugar. The big hole in the middle probably represents its nutritional value which is zero. This equally applies to cookies and cakes. Anything which is made of white bread, sugar, shortening and preservatives is bad for hypoglycemic.

Alcohol
Alcohol contains nothing but calories. It does not have any nutritional value and it moves quickly through the bloodstream. This makes the bloods sugar level high. The level drops down suddenly when the alcohol leaves the system.

Artificial Fruit Drinks
These drinks contain sometimes even less than 10 % fruit and have a lot of sugar. They are filled with sucrose and artificial coloring. This rots the teeth as well. A better option is the fruit juice but in the small quantity. Still a good option is whole fruit. As in this case one can benefit from fiber as well.

Decaffeinated Coffee
This is not only bad for hypoglycemic but for everybody. As to remove the caffeine a chemical solvent has to be added in the coffee.

Soft Drinks
These soft drinks are nothing more than sugar, color, artificial flavor and water. It is awful for anybody dealing with hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.

Diet Drinks
In diet drinks one gets all the “benefits” of soft drinks plus those of artificial sweeteners. These sweeteners increase the craving of sugar and alter chemistry of brain.

Deep Dish Pizza
This is a wonderful way of stacking and packing the digestive tract with big blob of sodium, fat and dough.

Ice cream
It’s a beauty, high in fat and high in sugar. It attacks straight on the pancreas and arteries. Nothing more but Eat well and be well to live well!
