Going to the Doctor for Diabetes

It is estimated that approximately 8 % of total population of United States of America is suffering from diabetes. This percentage has increased by around 14 % in the years 2005-2007. In order to win the race with these increasing rates it is the best idea to know about the early symptoms of diabetes. Still before putting you directly into the symptoms of diabetes I would like to inform you about the two types of diabetes as each one have its own line of symptoms.

Type 1 diabetes
This is also termed juvenile onset or insulin dependant diabetes. This diabetes comes into place when the immune system of the body starts to destroy the beta cells of pancreas. The beta cell of pancreas is the only natural system present in our body which regulates the blood sugar level by producing insulin.

Type 2 diabetes
It is also termed as adult onset or non-insulin dependant diabetes. Type 2 diabetes accounts for around 90% of all the diagnosed cases of diabetes. This diabetes comes into place when the body system develops resistance against insulin.

This kind of diabetes is closely linked with:

• Obesity
• Age
• Family history
• Physical inactivity
• Ethnicity

In the lay men’s term it can be safely said that diabetes comes into place when there is an increased levels of sugar in the blood.

In non diabetic who have a healthy pancreas, the insulin is naturally produced which allows the body to regulate the blood sugar levels. In contrast, if the pancreas is not effectively operating, the body is unable to produce sufficient insulin, thus the blood sugar levels are not automatically regulated. The result is the development of diabetes.

When the blood sugar levels in the body becomes high. The body tends to give the indications by giving different symptoms. These are increased appetite, frequent urination, excessive thirst, weight loss, tiredness. If somebody is experiencing any of these symptoms it does not mean that the person has developed diabetes. Rather it means that he should consult doctor or go for an oral glucose tolerance test.

When Diabetic Symptoms Indicate That a Doctor’s should be called:

• If the person feels very thirsty and have to go to the restroom more frequently
• If the person becomes nauseous for no obvious reason
• When there is a loss in weight without trying for it
• When there is a change in breathing pattern
• The smell of the breath is slightly odd. The mouthwash and brushing seems to be the temporary solutions.
• The vision starts to blur
• The person has a cut that take much longer time to heal

The above symptoms require an immediate call to the doctor’s office

Remember! The symptoms of diabetes are only indicators, not a statement that the person has diabetes.
